Welcome to Sumbern.
My name is Summer Ory, and I am the breeder behind Sumbern Bernese Mountain Dogs. We are located on our farm near Earlham, Iowa—approximately 30 miles west of Des Moines. If you are interested in a Berner puppy, let’s have a conversation.
My lifelong background in agriculture and animal husbandry has shaped the way I approach breeding. Careful planning, practical experience and a deep respect for every animal entrusted to my care. As a member of the Bernese Mountain Dog Club of America (BMDCA) I am committed to preserving the qualities that make the Bernese Mountain Dog so remarkable. Temperament, balanced structure, unmistakable breed type and devotion to family.
I actively exhibit my dogs in AKC conformation, where they are evaluated against the official breed standard. Every Sumbern litter is planned thoughtfully and bred with purpose. My goal is never to produce puppies in volume, but to make responsible breeding decisions that contribute positively to the health, temperament and future of the breed.
Health and genetic research are central to my program. Breeding dogs receive comprehensive health testing, including recommended OFA evaluations and genetic screening. I also participate in Berner-Garde, supporting the open sharing of health, pedigree and longevity information for the benefit of Bernese Mountain Dogs worldwide.
